Jailhouse Adopt-A-Crag
On November 12th, the
Access Fund is hosting a workday at Jailhouse near Sonora, CA. Over 200 tons of gravel will be laid for a new parking area and road, new fences and gates will be made and the access trail will be improved. The Access Fund is helping to sponsor this Adopt-A-Crag event. Climbers around the bay area will be heading out to help.

Mountain Hardware, Prana, MadRock and more have generously donated everything from deluxe packs to a sleeping bag to lots of chalkbags, hats, T-shirts, yoga mat, and a whole lot more stuff. Climbers volunteering will be eligible for some of this great stuff!
Also, as of that day, the access to the crag will change. New access will be through a gate off O'Byrnes Ferry Road, which will be locked. To get in through the gate, you'll need the combination. That will be posted here:
Jailhouse Access FundThe terms of the new easement require that climbers follow a few guidelines- No dogs, music, fires or camping are allowed. Also, per the owner's request, please don't park outside of the new access gate. Until Nov. 12th, park by the bridge and approach the cliff by the old traditional hike up the steep hill.
Stop by Jailhouse on November 12th to help out at one of the US's and Bay Area's premiere sport climbing crags.

Mt. Diablo Adopt-A-Crag

The
Access's Fund's signature stewardship program, Adopt-A-Crag, is coming to Mt. Diablo this weekend, Sunday July 26, 2009.
Adopt-a-Crag events typically include activities such as litter clean-ups, trail construction and restoration, erosion control, and invasive weed removal.
Mt. Diablo, a Bay area climbing destination, hosts a number of great topropes, sport, and traditional routes. The crag's proximity to the city means it is greatly impacted by climbers, hikers, and other outdoor users. This is a great opportunity to help maintain a great crag.
These events epitomize climber conservation at the local level, showing landowners and land managers that climbers truly care about the places they recreate. This display of stewardship not only gives back to the land, but is paramount to keeping climbing areas open by showing decision makers the passion that climbers have for their climbing areas.
The day will begin with a short service project - lead by The Access Fund- helping to maintain this climbing environment for future climbers to enjoy. Then,
Outward Bound instructors will guide you through a fun, challenging and rewarding climbing experience. The climbs will be top rope routes of varying difficulty for all levels to enjoy. All gear will be provided. Day of details will be provided after you
RSVP.
Come help maintain a great climbing area and have fun with the Access Fund and Outward Bound.

Rocklin Boulders Clean-Up A Huge Success!

I mentioned it yesterday and I'll mention it again today...When something needs help, something needs doing, or something needs some serious volunteer action, it has become abundantly clear that we are a great group to turn to! I just got some great news that the
Adopt-A-Crag event held back on October 11
th at
Rocklin Boulders was not just a success, it was a HUGE success at that.
The event, hosted by
Climbing Resource Advocates for Greater Sacramento (
CRAGS), saw a grand total of 44 volunteers showing up for the cleaning, and what's even more impressive, is that all total 172 volunteer hours were logged! When the end of the event finally came, an entire dumpster was filled. What is scary is that it was filled with
14 car tires, 2 shopping carts, a mattress, shelving unit, TV/VCR combo, 20' of chain link fencing and way too much steel strapping and rebar to even mention.
More than anything, we just want to throw out a massive THANK YOU to each and every one of you that participated in the
Adopt-A-Crag event, and also to Goodyear Tire Co. for letting us use their dumpster and parking area for the event!
Finally, don't forget that there is a CRAGS Fundraiser this Saturday at Sacramento
Pipeworks at 7PM. There will be an awesome screening of the REEL ROCK TOUR and I'm fairly sure you won't want to miss this either. Check out the
new CRAGS website for a lot more info on any upcoming events, and once again, Thanks EVERYONE!
