Recall Alert: Gri Gri 2
Petzl just issued a recall for a series of GriGri 2s. Check their notice below.
Petzl has issued a Recall for Replacement for all Petzl GRIGRI 2 units with the first five digits of the serial number between 10326 and 11136. Petzl recently became aware that excessive force applied to the lowering handle in the open position can cause internal damage that can disable the GRIGRI 2's assisted braking function. As a precautionary measure, Petzl is asking for the return of all affected GRIGRI 2's, to be replaced with revised versions. To date, seven such damaged GRIGRI 2’s have been reported worldwide, and no incidents as a result of this damage have been reported.
If you have a GRIGRI 2 with a serial number in this range, please stop use immediately and contact Petzl America at 1 (800) 932-2978 (toll free) or grigri2recall@petzl.com to initiate an exchange.

While the potential risk of an incident due to this issue with the GRIGRI 2 is small, our total commitment to the safety of our users has led us to make this decision. With the summer climbing season just beginning, Petzl understands that this recall comes at an inconvenient time and we are working hard to ensure that everyone receives their replacement GRIGRI 2 as quickly as possible. Everyone at Petzl is committed to resolving this issue. We ask you to accept our sincerest apologies for this inconvenience, and we thank you for your continued support.

New Petzl Gri Gri's At Touchstone Gyms
Petzl, a leading company in manufacturing great climbing products, recently released an updated version of their immensely popular GriGri.
The new GriGri 2 is compatible with ropes from 8.9 to 11mm, has a progressive descent control system designed to offer smooth, even lowering action - there's a larger 'sweet spot' when lowering a climber or rappelling, and is 25% lighter and 25% more compact than the old GriGri.
The belaying technique of the GriGri2 is similar to the previous edition. Below is a video made by Petzl of the correct way to use the device.
Petzl also release a warning about a number of their products that are being counterfeited. These knockoffs have less than the reliable amount of strength and need to be avoided. For more information Check out the Petzl Warning.

Petzl and 5.10 Demos
Petzl, one of the largest climbing companies in the world, along with 5.10, the climbing shoe company with the stickiest rubber, will be demoing their products this coming week at Ironworks, Great Western Power Company, and Mission Cliffs.
Petzl will be demoing the Sama/Adjama/Selena/Luna/Hirundos harnesses as well as the Meteor/Altios/Elios/Elia helmets.
5.10 will be demoing the Team 5.10, dragon, Jet 7, rogue, moccasym, anasazi velcros, anasazi lace-up, newton, and the grandstone.
